Job Description

Service Technician independently performs complex diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer and/or dealer-owned agricultural and turf equipment. May require some direction or guidance from the Service Manager, Store Manager, or Shop Foreman.

Responsibilities

Service Technician performs complex diagnostics and repairs on agricultural and turf equipment and established guidance and rate control products

Service Technician participates in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge

Service Technician performs diagnosis and repair in the field as required

Service Technician mentors Service Technician Trainees and Service Technicians

Service Technician conducts or supports customer clinics

Service Technician maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products

Service Technician maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment

Service Technician maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion

Service Technician follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments

Service Technician completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments

Service Technician accounts for all time and material used in performing assigned duties

Job Requirements

5+ years of experience performing service repairs

Ability to perform complex repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures on the machines of the Technician's specialty

knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of agricultural and turf equipment

Excellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes

Ability to use Service Advisor and basic computer functions

Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly

Purpose

Responsible for administrating the warranty claim process to maximize administrative efficiency and return on warranty claims. Provide consultation and training to the service and parts departments on all matters related to warranty.
 

Responsibilities

● Develops and assists in implementing standardized warranty claim processes.

● Monitors equipment records for extended and special warranties for expiration.

● Manages and processes parts and service warranty claims including computation of charges of shop work for all locations.

● Works with service managers to ensure there are no expired Product Improvement Programs.

● Understands warranty regulations and is able to provide consultation and training to service managers, techs, and parts employees on the proper way to proceed with a warranty situation.

● Ensures compliance with non-returnable service parts policies.

● Communicates to departmental management about warranty status on a regular basis.

● May participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge.

● Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion.

● Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.

● Maintains knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
 

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge

● 2+ years experience with Service Department operations.

● Experience with basic computer functions; experience using dealer business system and John Deere Warranty system preferred.

● Experience working cooperatively in a team environment.

● Experience communicating effectively.

● Experience creating, analyzing, and interpreting internal reports.

● High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.

Reports to: Parts Manager

Purpose:

Selling service parts, bulk fluids, attachments and accessories. Performs in-store customer service, overall organizational promotion, and stocking duties. Identifies and provides complete parts solutions for customers. Bilingual/Spanish-speaking preferred!

Responsibilities:

o Quickly establish rapport and relationship with customers.

o Provides quality customer experience through knowledge, use of systems, and process execution.

o Provides parts recommendations including alternatives that meet customers’ needs.

o Fulfills online orders in timely manner and places in will call area.

o Effective use of computer applications including Sales Manual, JD Parts®, Parts Expert®, JD Point®, PartsAdvisor®, barcode system and Dealer Business System.

o Supplies Service Technicians with parts as required.

o Assists with preparing and maintaining professional showroom image and merchandise displays.

o Maintains inventory integrity by verifying receipting-in of shipments and assisting with placing parts orders in their proper inventory locations; assisting in cycle counts; following up on inventory discrepancies and expediting issues by reporting to the Parts Sales Lead.

o Assists in keeping parts department clean and orderly.

o Assists in maintaining all departmental tools and equipment in good working order.

o Proactively seek and participate in available company‐sponsored training, in an effort to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set.

o Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.

o Safely operate a forklift and other related equipment as needed.

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

o High School diploma or equivalent experience.

o Ability to connect with customers, maintain professional image, establish rapport. Bi-lingual/Spanish-speaking preferred!

o Understands basic selling processes.

o Basic data entry/keyboarding skills and experience utilizing basic computer programs, for example Microsoft based products.

o Experience working both independently and in a team setting.

o Physical ability to lift items weighing up to 75 lbs.

o Highly developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

o Basic parts and machinery knowledge.

Purpose:

Operates vehicles to transport parts, small equipment, supplies and paperwork for the dealership. Properly orders, receives, stores and accounts for parts or merchandise.

Responsibilities:

● Transports parts, small equipment, supplies, and paperwork between dealer facilities; may also deliver to customers.

● Maintains records of pickup and deliveries and obtains necessary signatures and receipts.

● Maintain assigned vehicles and related equipment in good condition.

● Account for all time and for all distance traveled in performing assigned duties.

● Timely processing of sending and receiving of parts shipments (i.e. Customer & Stock Orders, Machine Down & Surplus Returns).

● Posts freight to work orders or counter tickets as needed for parts orders & transfers.

● Perform cycle counting duties to ensure that all materials are properly verified to be reflective of reported inventory; report discrepancies of over/under amounts and any damaged products.

● Assists in keeping parts department clean and orderly.

● Making certain that the technician or customer receives the proper part on time as promised; call customers for parts pick-up and delivers parts if necessary.

● Assists Supervisor with merchandising displays by re-stocking showroom inventory.

● Routinely lifts items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

o Hold a valid drivers license.

o High School diploma or equivalent experience.

o Ability to lift items weighing upwards to 75 lbs.

o Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a degree of independence.
