Job Description

Sets-up & maintains L&G equipment and small engines. Involves working on a variety of equipment from chainsaws to compact tractors specializing in John Deere. Consistently exhibits Midwest Machinery Company’s core values of Commitment, Passion, Progressiveness, Integrity, and Value Delivery.  


  • Provides set-up and repair of John Deere lawn and garden equipment
  • Diagnoses and repairs small engines/equipment as needed
  • Reviews and explains any maintenance, repair or other service concerns directly with the customer and documents on work order
  • Participates in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge
  • Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
  • Maintains condition of inventory, tools and equipment
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
  • Completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments
  • Accounts for all time and material used in performing assigned duties
  • Actively assists in recruiting service work
  • Interacts in a positive and respectful manner with customers and fellow employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of small engines, electrical, fuel and hydraulic systems
  • Good diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of turf equipment and small engines
  • Ability to use Service Advisor, Microsoft Office applications, and basic computer functions
  • Basic Service Technician certification preferred
  • Ability to use a forklift/skid loader; fork lift license preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required; Associates degree preferred

  Physical, Mental and Other Requirements:

  • Frequent bending and stooping
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work Saturdays/extended day hours as needed
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record required
  • Provide own tools
