Five Star Equipment has an exciting opportunity for a Service Manager in the Syracuse, NY territory. We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced professional to join our team. The Service Manager is a branch middle management position responsible for the administration, marketing and service delivery of their team. Also responsible for working with the Branch General Manager in the implementation of Corporate Product Support strategies, policies, procedures and best practices. Coordinates/interfaces with the Corporate Product Support Team on various product support matters. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all employees working in the Service department.  
  • Ensures department’s work orders are complete and submitted timely.
  • Must understand and apply proper departmental accounting procedures related to purchase orders, work orders, chart of accounts, invoices, parts lists, vendor accounts receivable, etc., and when questions exist, get help from Corporate Accounting department.
  • Works with branch personnel to resolve customer service complaints, which are to be handled in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Abide by Company standards for daily operations of the department.
  • Update John Deere’s Service Advisor system with all necessary software to keep inventory resources current.
  • Shall quote fair and accurate flat rate hourly quotes for Service Technicians in accordance with company policy.
  • Complete Service Technician work summary sheets in order to determine individual performance or identify issues.
  • Promote a safe departmental culture. Enforce the department team in wearing all issued personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment. Correct instances of unsafe behavior & practices and carelessness.  
  • Conduct formal scheduled or informal performance reviews on the employees under their supervision.  
  • Responsible for assuring service technicians meet and exceed training and qualifications on the core products.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience as foreman or supervisor leading and motivating small teams in heavy equipment, construction, etc.
  • Must have a solid foundation of equipment parts and prior experience working as a technician or mechanic.
  • Must have a clean DMV to qualify for insurance coverage under the company auto policy.
  • Knowledge of company reporting, customer accounts and financial reporting methods and operations for the Service Department.
  • Understands factors facing his/her departmental employees such as time, work conditions, physical demands, etc.
  • Ability to use software applications such as the CDK business system, Microsoft Office and Internet functions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as work in various demanding environmental conditions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills.
