Job Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Controller 

Department: Accounting (10), Exempt

Location:  Riverview

                                                                                               

Summary of Primary Functions

This position is responsible for posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with accounts payable and receivable. This job description does not include a complete listing of all the duties and functions of the position. Management reserves the right to assign other duties or projects as necessary.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each assigned essential duty satisfactorily. (Below are examples, not all duties will be assigned to you but other duties may be assigned)


  • Assists in the preparation, integrity, and interpretation of the financial statements
  • Posts journal entries and performs assigned financial close responsibilities
  • Record and reconcile the John Deere vendor statements monthly, including researching and clearing open items
  • Prepare and maintain Sales and Use Tax filings for assigned states, including filing payments, analyzing data, reviewing and approving sales tax exemption certificates and updating customer tax status in Equip.  
  • Reconciles bank accounts and various general ledger accounts
  • Provide oversight and accounting for fixed and leased assets
  • Prepare annual property tax returns
  • Assists with employee expense reimbursement processing
  • Processes ACH and wire requests for properly approved company expenditures as requested
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processing of company system.
  • Creates cost reports that include gross margin and other key data, as appropriate, for management performance measures.
  • Assist with external auditors, including, financial statement audit, IRS and state compliance audits, and bank compliance audits.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Accounting experience
  • Sales Tax experience
  • Commission experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree
Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree within an Accounting Field and 6+ years’ experience.
  • Organization and communication skills must be highly developed.
  • Computer skills need to be broad based.
Language Skills:


  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:


  • Ability to calculate accounting functions, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need the following: The ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and the ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
