The TNE IMPACT Center will be a facility that allows for new, innovative, and highly capable methods to add real value for our customers and employees. It will support all departments across our retail locations, improve efficiency in new equipment set up, reconditioning, streamline parts storage and transfers, and improve our customer service abilities in our retail locations. Provide added space for growing our CDIP education process for our customers and cross training our departments on new John Deere technology and equipment.

The Lead Technician assists in training/mentoring, coordinating, and directing the workload of the Service Department for maximum efficiency and productivity. Advises and recommends to the Service Manager on technician skills and training needs.

You’ll focus on: 

  • Leads/Mentors and trains the team on all new setup of all equipment coming into the IMPACT Center – Following the John Deere PDI Process
  • Will inspect and sign off on the release of equipment for delivery to the customer
  • Quality control of each piece of new equipment being set up at IMPACT Center
  • Assists the Service Manager in hiring training/mentoring technicians
  • Assists with the assignment of jobs and work areas to Service Department employees according to their skills and knowledge
  • Supervise and help lead/schedule in Wash Bay
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
  • Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive equipment
  • Will provide performance feedback for service technicians and staff to the Service Manager
  • Participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge.
  • Inspects and repairs all specialty tools/TNE owned tools as needed
  • Recommends new special tooling as needed
  • May review repair orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • May direct and assist in the diagnosis of machine problems of technicians and apprentices
  • May assist with coordination and scheduling of all in-house/JDU technician training
  • May fill in for the Service Manager in their absence as needed
  • May assist in the appraisal of repair orders coming into the Service Department and may participate in repairs.
  • May schedule and participate in re-conditioning of used equipment and set-up of new equipment.
  • May assist in the tracking and scheduling of Product Improvement Programs
  • May assist in the scheduling and installation of PUKS
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities
  • Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience performing & mentoring as a technician; demonstrated experience with equipment setup while consistently meeting performance metrics preferred
  • Experience leading a team and working cooperatively in a team environment
  • Experience using special tools and following Technical Manual setup procedures on machines of the Technician’s specialty
  • Experience with the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in off road, construction, lawn, or heavy equipment
  • Experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposes
  • Experience with basic computer functions; Experience using Service ADVISOR™ or other computer based diagnostic repair tools preferred
  • Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; Associates Degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required; and the ability to meet Federated Insurability requirements
  • Must be able to maintain reliable attendance
