The Lawn and Garden Service Technician performs basic diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer and/or dealer-owned residential and turf equipment.


  • Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on turf equipment and commercial and consumer products as requested by the Service Manager.
  • Assembles and services all types of equipment and other merchandise offered for sale by the dealership including portable handheld and portable power equipment.
  • Performs pre-delivery inspection (PDI) on all types of equipment and other merchandise offered for sale by the dealership
  • May perform PDIs at mass channel retailers
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment required in the set-up and delivery process
  • Participates in all job-related training and prepares all reports and forms required in conjunction with work
  • Maintains current product knowledge of John Deere products
  • Maintains condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools and maintains a clean work area performing work in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
  • Maintain records and accounts for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing both customer and dealership equipment.


  • Ability to perform repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in the repair of small agricultural and turf equipment
  • Excellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes
  • Ability to use Service Advisor and basic computer functions
  • Ability to lift at least 75lbs. repeatedly
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required; Associates degree preferred
