JOB TITLE: HR Specialist
REPORTS TO: VP of Human Resources
SUPERVISES: n/a
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: HR VP, Recruiters, Executives, Managers, and Employees of all levels.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing human resources consultation and support to all levels of the business, to design and administer HR policies and procedures. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (listed in order of importance):
- Maintains and administers HR policies as described in the Employee Handbook.
- Evaluates HR processes and strategies to help determine improvements to be made.
- Collects and analyzes HR data related to compensation, benefits, training, recruitment, etc. to help determine improvements to be made.
- Processes paperwork according to established procedures.
- Prepares internal employee communications regarding compensation, benefits, or company policies.
- Utilizes knowledge of various human resources functions to provide tactical support to line managers.
- Acts as Consultant for ADA Interactive Process and Accommodations, Performance Management, FLSA, and other employment law compliance.
- Acts as liaison with other HR functions.
- Provides change management support as needed.
- Onboards new employees, including processing and collecting necessary information for data entry, background checks, etc.
- Responds to unemployment claims and appeals.
- Prepares various reports such as EEO-1, PPACA part-time employee eligibility, new employee lists, turnover data, etc.
- Maintains current labor law posters for all locations.
- Participates in Safety Committee activities.
- Manages Employee Relations and Engagement projects, including Deeds Make a Difference program and Employee Engagement Survey.
- Reviews software/vendor options in order to make recommendations as needed.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Requires a bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of progressive HR Experience, or comparable amount of combined experience & education. SHRM and/or HRCI certification preferred.
SPECIAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Excellent computer skills to navigate within the transportation software. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to multitask and prioritize tasks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Extended periods of sitting, must be able to lift 25lbs regularly, extensive hours on a computer. Regular travel with occasional overnight travel required.
