Essential Duties:

  1. Engine under hauls, head gaskets, rear axle replacement, hydraulic valves and pumps, rockshafts and transmission repairs are typical.
  2. Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy and various other types of equipment.
  3. Order parts and keep track of machine status.
  4. Keep accurate service records and inspections.
  5. Complete work in a timely fashion, and within MST’s standards.
  6. Keep service truck repaired, safe, and maintained.
  7. Follow company policies and government regulations.
  8. Work to the standards and values of James River Equipment.

Education

  1. High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  2. Vocation or technical degree, or equivalent work experience or training.
  3. Knowledge of service department operations, heavy equipment technology department operations, and heavy equipment technology in general.
  4. Strong communication skills and self-motivated.

Physical Demands

  • Physical Effort: Field Service Technicians regularly work on machines in tight and uncomfortable positions. They may stand for long periods of time while also having to bend, crawl, or lay on their backs when making repairs. Field Service Techs frequently lift objects weighing 50-pounds unassisted and move heavier items (over 50 pounds) with assistance of devices. Field Service Technicians will service machines both in the shop and outside the shop at customer locations.

  • Working Conditions: Field Service Technicians perform work both in the shop and out at customer locations. You occasionally perform work on loose-footing areas outside of the shop and in the field. There is often exposure to grease, dirt, dust, fumes, drafts, and loud noises of varying levels both in the shop and out. There is also frequent risk of burns, chemical irritations, cuts, strains, bruises, etc. Field Service technicians will regularly perform work duties outside in adverse weather conditions. To combat these dangers and risk hazards, field service technicians must follow strict safety procedures, proper equipment safety, and PPE.

  • Travel: Requires frequent driving to & from customer locations and the shop.

Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality is vital. Must attend work regularly and to arrive at work on time. Failure to do so detrimentally affects team morale and productivity.
