Job Title: Commercial Account Manager – Level 1
Reports To: General Manager
Department: Sales
Location: Branch
Employment Status: Exempt/Salaried
This position is designed for a high-energy, self-starting individual who wants to build a successful career in the mobile equipment industry.  The intended focus is to create a foundation to become a Machine Sales Professional but can offer limitless opportunities depending upon the aspirations & abilities of the employee.
Through a series of well-designed rotational positions, the employee will:
  1. Learn how DOBBS Equipment supports our Customers by providing them with industry leading mobile equipment.
  2. Familiarize themselves with and learn to sell the various product lines of DOBBS Equipment, such as John Deere Construction machines, Finn Mulching & Seeding Equipment, Harlo Forklifts, and LeeBoy Rosco products.
  3. Gain a basic understanding of how a mobile equipment dealer works internally as well as externally with Customers & Suppliers.
  4. Begin to understand value selling as well as how & when to properly advocate on behalf of Customers, the dealership, and Suppliers.
  5. Be introduced to various machine acquisition & disposal methods in order to be able to consult Customers properly according to their individual needs.
  6. Learn about the key principles of building a successful career in the mobile equipment industry, such as the importance of being able to build quality relationships with fellow employees, Customers, and Suppliers; and be given the opportunity to begin to build relationships that last a lifetime.
Developmental Phases:
Duration of phases are dependent upon the employee’s ability to learn & capacity to effectively model acquired skills, as well as the needs of DOBBS Equipment.
General expected initial training timeline is:
1-2 Weeks: Machine Safety, Inventory, and Logistics.
1-2 Weeks: Service Department.
1-2 Weeks: Parts Department.
1-2 Weeks: Inside Machine Sales.
1-2 Weeks: On the Job Training with veteran Machine Sales Representatives.
The Commercial Account Manager I will continue to spend time with Commercial Account Managers II, Senior Account Managers, and other members of the DOBBS Team to increase sales of Construction Equipment, including but not limited to:
  1. Job shadowing & mentoring.
  2. Making outbound calls to prospective Customers.
  3. Delivering, demonstrating, and picking up Compact Construction Machines.
  4. Receiving Customers, talking with them about their machine acquisition/disposal needs, and helping them select the right machine(s) & attachments.
  5. Gaining a better understanding of how our Customers use our machines to profitably bring progress to our world.
  6. Learn basic operating techniques of the various machines that DOBBS Equipment.
Beneficial Previous Experiences:
  1. Sales positions that require challenging interactions with external customers.
  2. Any construction trades, but preferably dealing with earthmoving heavy equipment.
  3. Opportunities to develop a reasonable level of theoretical or practical mechanical skills.

Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements:
  • Two-year college degree or heavy equipment sales experience may be substituted or combined with education.
  • Valid Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teammates and customers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to self-manage/self-motivate.
  • PC literate, proficient with MS Office, with an emphasis in Excel and Outlook required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry.
  • Quick learner with the ability to think out of the box.
  • Extensive driving required; overnight travel required.
