Accounting Manager



Purpose:

Performs various complex accounting duties according to Dealership policy and accounting principles. Duties include coordinating, preparing, and analyzing financial information and reports that provide summary information for management use in making Dealership financial decisions. Represents the Accounting Department as the contact for accounting issues. Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages the general accounting functions, including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes
  • Assesses current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Develops staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
  • Works with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
  • Prepares various daily, monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reports or statements
  • Records routine or recurring transactions
  • Gathers, reviews, and analyzes statistical information
  • Makes necessary corrections and/or adjustments to receive accurate report information
  • Examines accounting information contained in reports and exhibits, traces and reconciles unusual variances
  • Performs complex account reconciliations
  • Submits financial trial balances to Deere on a monthly basis
  • Submits required financial data to Spader Group on a monthly basis and assists in interpretation of data where applicable
  • Assists with budget development, implementation, and analysis of data
  • Communicates with others in the organization to answer accounting questions or resolve issues
  • Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures
  • Protects organizations value by keeping information confidential
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Manages employee development activities for employees reporting to this position
Qualifications

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.  CPA or MBA preferred. 
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role
  • Understanding of financial concepts such as budgets, Return on Investment (ROI), and Net Operating Return on Assets (NORA)
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of accounting systems
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills to include Pivot Tables. Experience with other financial systems
